We’re about halfway through our film submission period and we’ve received a good number of submissions. I thought it might be interesting to share the data behind the submissions, looking at genre, the average budget and whether it is family friendly or not.
It’s interesting to see that digital certainly is the preferred method to distribute film and it’s great for us as we can send a filmmaker a Dropbox link and they can easily transfer their files over to us. The 58% of family friendly films is great to see too. Certainly last year, we saw a great deal less and we had many parents asking what films were suitable for their children. We will making this a lot more clearer this year.
Less horror films submitted and great deal more thrillers. Some of this is down to the interpretation of the director, but again last year saw many more horror genre. There is a healthy number of documentaries coming through, but we’ve struggled with sci-fi and fantasy. We’ve never shown a western, but this may change as we link up with our friends in Worcester, Massachusetts in the US.
We’re still open for submissions and we’re keen to see all that local talent that we know is there. As long as the film is an original works, all it takes is a short submission form and we’ll be in touch with more details about our selection process and submission address. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
