On Friday, I was invited to attend a meetup at Birmingham Film Studio to briefly talk about Worcestershire Film Festival and showcase a few films. I chose to screen Happy Birthday, Dear Universe as a visual explanation to what film means to us. I then played the winning ‘Lights’, the trailer for ‘How To Become A Criminal Mastermind’ and Spanish horror, ‘Refuggio 115’ to represent the diversity of the films we had in November.
Birmingham Film Studio is based in Digbeth and has a green screen facility, a warehouse studio and an outside lot, providing lots of opportunities for filmmakers. They also have live production equipment and RED cameras to hire. Run by a bunch, friendly people, the Studio is hoping to encourage film production in the Midlands, something that we are very passionate about ourselves.
The meetup I attended is a monthly event for filmmakers and I met many new people, directors and actors, all interested in developing projects. There was a prize draw that I was asked to draw for a free day in the green studio. Dave Tomlin won (he’s on a winning streak!) I promised to play the film that’s made at next year’s Worcestershire Film Festival.
